Education: Wolfville High School; Acadia University (B.A. Hons. 1960); Dalhousie University Law School (LL.B. 1964); Sir James Dunn Scholarship in Law; Honorary Degree - Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) Dalhousie University (May 2003). In 2006, he was awarded the Honourary Degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from Guelph University. In May 2007, he was awarded the Honourary Degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (honoris causa) by Acadia University in Wolfville.

Profession: Barrister and Businessman.

Parliamentary Service: Appointed to the Senate September 7, 1990.

Marital Status: Married.
