Each year since 1992, according to the Centennial Flame Research Award Act, the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities grants the Centennial Flame Research Award. This Award is offered to a person with a disability to enable him or her to conduct research and prepare a report on the contribution of one or more Canadians with disabilities to the public life of Canada or the activities of Parliament.

For 2013, the award has a value of $5,750. The deadline for submitting an application and presenting a project proposal is Monday, June 3, 2013, (postmarked as proof). The recipient of the Award will have to produce a research paper of fifty pages or less, on his or her research subject and will have one year to complete his or her report, starting from the date he or she was selected.

The Committee invites all Canadians with disabilities to submit their applications for the Centennial Flame Research Award.
