The Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Nick Discepola, Roger Gallaway, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman and Monte Solberg.

Acting Members present: Paul Forseth for Ken Epp and Antoine Dubé for Yvan Loubier.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Chamber of Maritime Commerce: Guy Dufresne, Chair, Quebec Cartier Mining. From the Shipping Federation of Canada (The): Paul Gourdeau, Vice-President, Fednay Limited. From the SODES (St.Lawrence Economic development Council): Ross Gaudreault, President, Quebec Port Authority; Marc Gagnon, Director General. From the Canadian Shipowners Association: Wayne Smith, Vice-President / General Manager, Seaway Marine Transport. From the St. Lawrence Shipoperator's Association: Ernest Beaupertuis, Senior Superintendent, Algoma Tankers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Cost Recovery. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, May 9, 2000, Meeting No. 54).

Guy Dufresne, Wayne Smith, Paul Gourdeau, Ernest Beaupertuis and Ross Gaudreault made statements and with the other witnesses in the roundtable answered questions.

At 5:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
