The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Bruce Stanton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Earl Dreeshen, John Duncan, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Anita Neville, LaVar Payne, Greg Rickford, Todd Norman Russell and Bruce Stanton.

 

Associate Members present: Carol Hughes.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tonina Simeone, Analyst; Trina Wall, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Sharon McIvor; Gwen Brodsky. Native Women's Association of Canada: Jeannette Corbiere Lavell, President; Karen Green, Executive Director. Congress of Aboriginal Peoples: Betty Ann Lavallée, National Chief; Roger J. Hunka, National Bilateral Director. National Association of Friendship Centres: Conrad Saulis, Policy Director.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, March 29, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-3, An Act to promote gender equity in Indian registration by responding to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia decision in McIvor v. Canada (Registrar of Indian and Northern Affairs).
 

Sharon McIvor made a statement and, with Gwen Brodsky, answered questions.

 

At 4:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jeannette Corbiere Lavell made a statement and, with Karen Green, answered questions.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
